Pavement vehicle interaction (PVI) looks at the interaction between a vehicle’s tires and the roadway surface on which it is driving. When road surface conditions are poor or pavement structural properties are inadequate, vehicles consume additional fuel beyond what is needed to move. Improving road design and conditions yeilds instant environmental and economic paybacks. We've just released a new information sheet that offers an overview of PVI and how PVI factors impact fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Download it, and related infographics, here.
We've also posted two new summaries which provide a more technical overview of our PVI research and our economic studies relating to pavements. Both can be found in our library of peer-reviewed publications under the "pavements" header.
