In areas prone to damage from extreme weather-related events like hurricanes, retrofitting or rebuilding existing infrastructure to be more resilient reduces the risk of future damage. While it is not feasible to rebuild entire cities, it is possible to identify specific buildings within a city that are most vulnerable to failure and make those buildings more resistant to damage. This brief explains updates to our modeling approach, which quantifies a set of variables to define a specific building’s vulnerability to wind damage. Read more.
