Report: The Decision-Making Process in the Design of Residential Structures

May 3, 2015

To improve energy efficiency, it is important to evaluate the impact of design decisions in residential buildings through all phases. CSHub researchers are developing models and tools to aid in life-cycle assessment (LCA) and life-cycle cost assessment (LCCA). Researchers surveyed architects and homebuilders/developers to understand what decisions are made at different points in the design process so that tools can be targeted accordingly. This report summarizes the survey findings and identifies opportunities to align tools and methods with the design process.
